Science, experience and practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00bb&quot;Can hypnosis really relieve pain?&quot;\u00ab<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a question I encounter regularly. And it&#039;s interesting how quickly we forget everyday experiences that show us that pain perception is much more flexible than we think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Everyday examples that we often overlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever cut or scratched yourself and didn&#039;t even feel it at first?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It often happens that we don&#039;t notice an injury right away - especially if we can&#039;t see it. It&#039;s only when we see blood or a wound that we feel pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This clearly shows us that pain is not just a direct and automatic response of the body to injury. The way we experience it is strongly linked to our attention, interpretation, and current state of consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extreme situations and natural pain protection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In extreme circumstances, this phenomenon is even more pronounced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who are seriously injured in accidents may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>they walk around,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they do not perceive pain,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>help others,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they operate relatively functionally,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>until the situation calms down. Only later, when the acute danger has passed, do they begin to realize the seriousness of the injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because in stressful situations the brain releases <strong>endorphins<\/strong> \u2013 natural painkillers that work similarly to analgesics. This phenomenon is called stress analgesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar mechanism is observed in athletes. A competitor can finish a marathon with a severely injured ankle, but only after the race does he feel the full intensity of the injury. During the effort and high motivation, pain is not at the forefront of perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emotional involvement and focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We often perceive pain worse when we are strongly emotionally involved \u2013 for example, in situations of rescuing a child or other person in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intense focus on a goal shifts attention away from bodily sensations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the key factors is therefore <strong>a state of deep concentration<\/strong> \u2013 state of focus or flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that is precisely the essence of hypnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hypnosis as a state of deep focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hypnosis is not a mystical phenomenon. It is a state of deep focus in which the same or similar mechanisms as stress analgesia are activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this state:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the way pain signals are processed changes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the nervous system is activated in a different way,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>natural endorphins are released,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the perception of pain becomes milder or temporarily withdraws from conscious attention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#039;s not that hypnosis magically &quot;removes&quot; pain.<br>It&#039;s about activating <strong>the body&#039;s natural abilities<\/strong>, that we already have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is hypnosis used to relieve pain?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is precisely because of these mechanisms that hypnosis is used in various areas, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>chronic pain,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dental procedures,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>childbirth,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>certain medical procedures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In all these cases, it is not a substitute for medical care, but rather a support for the body&#039;s mechanisms that reduce the subjective experience of pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It&#039;s not magic - it&#039;s the activation of natural mechanisms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to emphasize: hypnosis does not give the body anything it does not already have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It does not contain any artificial substances.<br>It doesn&#039;t turn off reality.<br>It does not erase injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It activates the nervous system in a way that stimulates the release of endorphins and changes the relationship to painful stimuli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So the question is not whether hypnosis works. The question is whether we allow the body to use what it already knows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does this look like in practice?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No mysticism.<br>No exaggeration.<br>No loss of control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hypnosis for pain relief is a structured process in which the individual remains cooperative, focused, and safe.
